Electrochemical Energy Storage
(EES) and Mechanical Energy Storage are the primary categories for energy
storage. When talking about grid scale or distributed electrical energy storage
the most popular energy storage devices, both in terms of current deployment
and announcements of new technologies involve energy storage devices that fall
into these two categories. This page is meant to cover energy storage
technologies that do not fit into the categories of Electrochemical Energy
Storage (EES) and Mechanical Energy Storage. Though they may be less utilized
at this time, it is important to be well aware of these other forms of energy
storage which may gain in popularity in the future.
